My life as Galileo

Hello, I am Galileo Galilei. I was born on February 15th, 1564 in a place called Pisa, Italy. My family consists of me, my mother Giulia Ammannati, my father Vincenzo Galilei, and my 7 younger brothers and sisters. When i was only 8 years old, my family moved to Florence, The town my father was from, but left me with Muzio Tedaldi, a man related to my mother by marriage. Two years after they moved, I went to Florence to meet them and got tutored by Jacopo Borghini until i was old enough to go to school in a monastery. I attended Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa. Here I lived with the strict life of a Monk, and to my surprise loved it. I told my father that I had wanted to become a monk and take up priesthood, but he already had a plan set for me. He wanted me to learn in the area of the sciences. I moved back to Pisa to live with Muzio Tedaldi again and shortly after enrolled at the University of Pisa to earn a medical degree. I never really desired a medical degree, therefore I did not take it as seriously as my father, who was a physician would have liked me too. But I did realize my true interests in Math and Natural Philosophy. After a long period of time, of trying to convince my father, me and my friend Ricci finally persuaded him to allow me to study what I wanted, Math.

After years of tutoring in the field of mathematics, and after writing my first book called “The Little Balance” I was given the spot as the Chair of Mathematics at the University of Pisa., the one of course I attended in my years. I studied a lot of different fields of science, all of which had something to do with my love for math. I even wrote an essay series called “De Motu” but I never actually published them. Years later, in 1591, a great heartbreak came over me when my father died. Although it was a heartrending experience, I was the oldest, which meant I had to support my family. Since my job at Pisa barely paid, I went to go find a job which paid better. Luckily I found a place at University of Padua. This new job not only offered me a much better salary, but I met a beautiful woman named Maria Gamba. I could not marry her because my financial situation was not the best, but we did parent 2 beautiful girls and a strong son together.

Through my discoveries with the telescope I began to believe against Capricornus and his geocentric idea. Most people did not like it though because my heliocentric ideas were against those of gods. As I finally got over this case I went back to my interests in math and science. I am here writing this today, me being 70 years old. My eyes are getting bad and the doctors say that I will soon be completely blind. My life has been good and productive and I feel its story will last a long time.
